The airport

Closed, not gone

Commercial operations stopped in 2022, but the runway, terminal and hangars were left intact. Reopening is not a rebuild — it is a return to service, which is why it can happen faster and cheaper than starting from nothing.

  • A 2,893m runway, capable of long-haul and freighter aircraft
  • A terminal built for five million passengers a year
  • Direct access to the A1(M), M18 and East Coast Main Line
